Social networks are an important source of traffic. Good
content significantly raises the probability of the posts being
frequently shared organically on social networks which
helps you expand your reach. At the same time, you can also
generate additional traffic through social channels. Social
interactions are also registered by Google and can help
the search engine review the relevance and quality of your
content. Outreach is a method of proactively acquiring backlinks to your website by contacting other website owners. The outreach process can involve any method of communication, but it typically happens via email and Twitter. While an SEO might not be your start-to-finish website design resource they should certainly be involved in design and usability, and there comes a time in every website’s life when SEO and website design collide head-on: the website refresh. Getting your site to rank in Google can be a tough slog. It requires knowledge of current ranking factors, as well as the time and ability to optimize your content for those factors.
Low Hanging Fruits (LHF)
Not every link is created equal. Every site has links that are less important or link to pages that don’t change (e.g., a site map or your About Me page). Use the NoFollow tag for those links. In addition to low priority links, Google suggests using the NoFollow tag for untrusted content and paid links. If you have text link ads on your site, make sure they’re tagged as NoFollow. Syndication takes the credibility
of the site you’re syndicating it too and transfers all the link juice and credibility (as well as social proof) over to your website. Syndication is a great way as well to gain a lot more visibility for the same amount of work! The quality and quantity of links you have pointing to your domain determines your overall authority, which in turn determines where you rank for various search queries. Don’t try and stuff keywords where they don’t belong. Yes, still focus on keywords, but your north star for everything you write should be the user.
Pay attention to on-page ranking factors
At one time, directories like DMOZ were a good place to add listings and get backlinks. However, these large web directories aren’t really relevant anymore. Get reputable websites to
link to you. You can achieve this by gaining a good following and reputation among your customers. A meta description is a short paragraph which is displayed under a title tag on the SERP (see screen above). A meta-description gives you the opportunity to introduce your brand before a searcher pays a visit to your site and actually sees the products that you offer. Nofollow links do not allow search engine bots to follow the link. That means if the website owner is linking back to you with Nofollow attributes, it does not pass on value from the source site. Only humans will be able to follow the links.
You’ve got to keep the flow going all the way through just like a river
Google wants to ensure that the sites it serves up in search results are relevant and up-to-date. A site that hasn’t been changed in two years is never going to do well. Anchor text to specific webpages on your site should be descriptive (but concise) as possible in order to benefit from the link. With for instance the rise of voice search, longer keyphrases become more and more common. Using a long keyphrase five times in your 300-word-article will look so unnatural, that it’s not a good practice at all, where using a certain keyword five times might fit there. Chew on that one for a while
Keywords or key phrases are simply the search terms someone types
into a search engine, such as Google or Bing, when they are looking for
certain information. People are constantly using keywords: whether they
are in search for a specific product or just browsing to conduct personal
research. Search engines can easily
discern duplication (through shingle analysis, singular value decomposition (SVD), etc.) in areas such as navigation, sidebars/blogrolls with the same links and footers all using the same text. Stop words are the small words in your SEO phrase, such as up, with, is, a, etc. While it’s widely accepted as a best practice to remove these from your SEO phrase, sometimes removing them can actually hurt your SEO. For example, “What is a graco taco?” makes a lot more sense than “what graco taco.” So while many SEO plugins and search experts will advise you to remove stop words, sometimes it’s best to leave them in if they drastically impact the meaning of the phrase. Be your own judge. In business, regardless of the particular field, it has always been a good idea to look around and see what competitors are doing, then try to apply what’s working for them to one’s own website.
